For the Beef Layer:
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 packet (1 oz) French onion soup mix
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp black pepper
¼ cup beef broth (optional, for added moisture)
For the Pasta Layer:
12 oz cooked pasta (penne, rotini, or ziti work well)
1 cup sour cream
½ cup cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
For the Topping:
1 ½ cups shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese (for that authentic French onion flavor)
1 cup crispy fried onions
Anweisungen
Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.
Cook the Beef Layer
In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the onions until softened and golden brown (about 5–7 minutes).
Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
Stir in the French onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper. If the mixture seems dry, add a splash of beef broth. Remove from heat.
Prepare the Pasta Layer
In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, sour cream, cream cheese, and shredded mozzarella. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated and creamy.
Assemble the Bake
Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Layer the creamy pasta mixture on top of the beef.
Sprinkle the shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese over the pasta layer.
Bake and Add Toppings
Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the crispy fried onions over the top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the onions.
Cool and Serve
Let the bake cool for a few minutes before serving. Pair with a simple side salad or crusty bread to complete the meal.
